First post, life with Charlie

Since Lily did tell me I could find friends on the inter-tubes if I wrote a blog, I'm trying it out. I wish I had more friends to play with but mainly friends to answer the questions I worry about. Only right now I can't remember any big questions so I'll just tell you about my life around here.

Every night I sleep in Moms' bed, except for the night I slept in the Lisa's bed when Moms was gone. I also slept in Dads' bed once or maybe a few times when I got cold and Moms was too asleep to let me go UNDER so I slept next to Pepper. Pepper is soooo big he is like a big heater all the time and it is good to sleep on top of him when you're cold. But usually I sleep on Pepper's Place.

Oh. I should explain "Pepper's Place" shouldn't I? It's a giant cushion that lives at the end of Moms' bed. It used to belong to Pepper and at first it lived at the end of Moms' corridor to her desk, then it was moved to the Lisa's divan. When Pepper got a new Place that was also put on the Lisa's divan, Pepper gave this Place to Lily. Then it was moved to the end of Moms' bed, and Lily gave it to Hannah. Hannah told me if I didn't bite her or wake her up, I could share it. So now it is part mine, too.

Pepper explains the origin of his Place this way:
"When I was a puppy, before I grew into a big cat, I kept forgetting I wasn't allowed to eat shoes or bags or trash on the floor, so Moms wanted me to stay close to her and far away from the disallowed things. First she got me a rag rug for a Place, and taught me to come and lay down on my Place whenever she told me to. But I could see lots of yummy things to eat from there, like Dads' belt or the Lisa's shoes, and I knew Moms said to stay on my Place, but it was flat on the floor and I wouldn't notice I was off the Place until I was in trouble. So Dads got me a big cushion Place, he called it a dog bed for a German Shepherd, but since I had to jump to get on it, and jump to get off it, I stayed on it much better and stayed out of trouble more."

Now there is a question. Pepper says when he was not grown, he was called a puppy, and sometimes Moms still calls him her good puppy, and I don't know what a puppy is, but since Pepper says he was never a kitten, he was just a puppy that grew into a big cat, how can that be? Don't you have to be a kitten to grow into a cat?

Lily says Pepper is really a DOG, but not to tell him that because it gets him upset. She says the confusion is because her and Hannah raised Pepper, and he got it into his head that he would grow up to be a cat, like them. Since he wants to be like them, they decided not to tell him any different.

So that's my question today. What is a dog anyway? My cat mama that I can't remember very well, but the cat I was borned out of, she said dogs were evil and we must hide if one came around. But Pepper isn't evil at all, he's all good without even a speck of evil. So how can he be a dog?

But how can he be a cat, if he was never a kitten? I'm so confused.
